When Turtles frontmen Flo & Eddie - and the rest of their '60s pop/rock compatriots on the bill - step up to the microphone, the years melt away as the hits of the Aquarian Age come back around. It gives us all a glimpse of what it was like to live in that golden moment of the 1960s, when the glorious vocal harmonies of The Turtles and their contemporaries came bursting out of just about every radio and jukebox in America. For just a little while, the cares of the current world seem somehow to melt away as the sound of a free, colorful era long gone rises up in the air once more. When the Happy Together Tour rolls into town, a beautiful kind of magic trick occurs. I replied, "I had a great time!" My day was complete. And after the show Shawn Stevens of the Vogues came to the front of the stage, reached down and shook my hand and asked me how I liked the show. And despite a covid protocol all but two stopped and shared a story and an autograph. I got to the venue a couple hours early and sat out behind the theater waiting to see if I could meet any of the stars as they arrived. And the tour backup group supported each band's music quite well. For Chuck's absence they brought in the Grass Roots which was a great addition. So, one is to expect there will be medical issues from time to time. ![]() But, these performers have been doing this for more than fifty years. I heard many comments in the audience of disappointment because of his absence. ![]() My four out of five star ratings is because unannounced was Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night as a no show because his physician is advising him to stop touring for medical reasons. There were the Cowsills, the Vogues, the Association, Gary Puckett of the Union Gap complete with his confederate military coat, and Ron Dante of the "Archies" fame filling in for the Turtles who had one member with Covid and another recovering from medical issues. ![]() Brought back memories of past times listening to the AM radio stations.
